SENDIASS Training Sessions

Wirral SEND Partnership Service offers a wide range of free online and in-person training sessions designed to support parents and carers of children with SEND, professionals and young people with SEND.

Sessions available include:

  • Understanding EHC Needs Assessments & EHCPs (For Parents or Carers of Child/Young Person with SEND)
    Covering legal rights and how the EHC process works
  • Understanding EHCP Reviews (For Parents or Carers of Young Person with SEND)
    Learn more about your rights and how EHCP reviews should work – including Annual, Interim and Transition Reviews
  • EHCP Reviews: Law, Policy & Practice (For Professionals)
    Helping professionals to be legally up to date with their responsibilities in EHCP Reviews
  • Choosing an Educational Setting – Things to Consider (For Parents or Carers of Young Person with SEND)
    Having an education, health and care (EHC) plan in place, or in draft form, for your child or young person provides you (or them) with certain rights. One of these is the legal right to request that a particular school or college is named in the EHC plan (or to express a preference for an independent school, college or other institution). This session provides parents with an overview of the various types of educational settings in Wirral and the eligibility criteria and application processes associated with those settings
  • Tribunals & Appeals (For Parents or Carers of Young Person with SEND)
    This session covers Step-by-step guidance on when and how a parent/carer or young person may wish to consider appealing a local authority decision regarding an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan and includes practical work-throughs on filling out appeal forms and organising the evidence bundle.
  • Disagreement Prevention & Early Resolution (For Professionals)
    This session identifies common and avoidable disagreement triggers that professionals can avoid in order to prevent disagreements with parents/carers regarding their child/young person’s education, health and social care from igniting or escalating. In particular it focuses on supporting professionals to develop and issue legally compliant and tribunal standard EHC Plans.
  • Overview of the role of SENDIASS (For Parents/Carers & Professionals)
    This session provides an overview of the functions covered by SENDIASS and the various legislation, statutory guidance and standards that shape the role of SENDIASS.
  • Overview of the role of Disagreement Resolution and Mediation Services (For Parents/Carers & Professionals)
    This session provides an overview of the functions covered by Disagreement Resolution & Mediation Services and the various legislation, statutory guidance and standards that shape the role of the service.

*Young People – All of the above sessions can be delivered as bite size accessible sessions for Young People with SEND
