Public Statement from, David Maguire, Chief Executive of WIRED. 27th March 2020

I am pleased to be able to confirm that although we have suspended face to face meetings and scooter hire service the majority of our services remain fully operational and our staff and volunteers are available via telephone, email, and video call to continue to support you as always. However, this week, in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, WIRED has migrated the whole organisation to home working arrangements which means that until further notice WIRED’s offices in Birkenhead, Liscard, New Brighton, Liverpool and Warrington will be closed. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers will continue to be available through our existing telephone and email helplines information, advice and support channels as usual. Please don’t hesitate to call or email us, even if it’s just for some reassurance or information about local services, we are happy to help. We have over 10,000 people registered with us for support and we will continue to do our very best during this period of change.

What is Shopmobility?

The Shop mobility services hires manual and powered wheelchairs and powered scooters to members of the public who have limited mobility.  These can be used to shop or visit leisure, commercial and hospital facilities in the surrounding area.

Who can use Shopmobility?

Equipment can be hired by anyone with mobility issues, whether due to age, disability or injury, so irrespective of the nature of your mobility issue these services are available to you.

How does it work?

A membership scheme is in operation. With this you pay an annual fee then a reduced fee each time you use a piece of equipment. Casual users are welcome and are charged for each visit.  Pre-booking is advisable. Once you arrive, our friendly team of staff and volunteers will help you to decide what equipment to hire and give you training to use it safely enabling local shops, bars and restaurants to be open and accessible to everyone

Repair Service

We also offer a repair service for motorised scooter, powerchair and wheelchair owners. Please see price list for repairs here. We operate an appointment system for the repair service so please call us on 0151 647 6162 to discuss any repairs, we will then allocate an appointment to you.
